Rev. Liz's Talk: "The Light We Find in the Dark" ☯️
Dear Beloved Ones,
Have you ever felt that being part of a spiritual community you really ought to be loving, peaceful, forgiving, positive, centered, and—preferably—pleasant. But authentic spirituality doesn’t require us to paste a smile on our face while our inner self is having a fit. We all love the idea of “being the light.” But what do we do when things don’t feel particularly light?
Have you ever met someone who could irritate you simply by breathing? Sometimes the people who irritate us most are showing us something about ourselves. The qualities we judge, condemn, or can’t stand in others may be qualities we’ve denied, disowned, or haven’t made peace within ourselves. Our buttons can become our teachers. And perhaps the question isn’t, “Why can't this person be different?” but “What in this experience is showing me about me?
We all have aspects of ourselves we’d rather not acknowledge—our anger, jealousy, fear, insecurity, neediness, or vulnerability. But what happens when, instead of judging these parts, we become curious about them? Perhaps the shadow isn’t our enemy. Perhaps it is simply a part of us waiting to be understood, loved, and integrated.
Join us this Sunday as we explore what happens when we stop trying to exile the parts of ourselves we don’t like and instead bring them into the light of consciousness. Together let’s explore what it might mean to stop dividing ourselves into acceptable and unacceptable parts and begin embracing the magnificent complexity of who we are. See you Sunday!
