Debbie Brient

Chair of the Nominating Committee/Congregational Representative

I was born and raised in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in secondary education, Spanish and Latin American Area Studies. Β I completed my junior year at the University of Costa Rica and have lived and worked in Puerto Rico and Spain. Β I am bilingual.

During my eight years as director of Philanthropy at The Nature Conservancy of Texas, I managed an 18-member fundraising team based in four markets. Β After the Nature Conservancy, I became assistant vice president for Advancement at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. Β I retired from the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in 2015 where I was director of Museum Advancement. Β Before entering the fundraising field, I held various marketing, and broadcast sales positions in Puerto Rico, Spain, Kansas City, San Francisco, Albuquerque, Los Angeles, and San Antonio.

I have had a lifelong association with Unity. Β My grandparents were friends with Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, the founders of Unity, and participated in faith healings with them. Β As a child, I went swimming at Unity Village, and my aunt started sending me the Daily Word when I was in college. Β I have attended Unity Santa Fe for 10 years as a member. Β I have served as a prayer chaplain, platform assistant, and led two capital campaigns, three annual pledge drives, and the social action team. In 2023, I was named Sacred Server of the Year. Β Currently, I am Team Leader of the Welcoming Team.
