November's Prayer Column: "The Gift of Gratitude"πŸ™πŸ½

Unity Santa Fe Prayer Column for November 2024

This is the month of my favorite national holiday Thanksgiving Day. It’s a time when we are reminded to ponder the blessings in our lives and express our appreciation to the Universe and one another.

Over thirty years ago, I was at an incredibly low point in my life and struggling to make sense of the difficulties I was mired in. It was at this time I encountered the practice of Gratitude. I began making a daily list of things I was grateful for, no matter how small. I found that, while I still had problems, my perspective was changing. I began to feel the abundance in my life rather than dwelling on what I lacked. I have continued this practice through times of joy and times of darkness. It was in those dark times that gratitude always led me back toward the light.Gratitude Journal

Meister Eckhart famously said, β€œIf the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” Another of his quotes tells us, β€œBe ready at all times for the gifts of God, and always for new ones.” In affirmative prayer, we acknowledge and express appreciation for gifts and blessings already received as well as those yet unseen knowing the Universe provides everything we need. We simply need to open our eyes
to the abundance that is ours and give thanks with a grateful heart.

My prayer is that your Thanksgiving Day and month be filled with the love of family, friends, community, and the Divine.
